Cosmetic dentistry has a price transparency problem. Practices advertise "from" prices that bear little relation to what anyone actually pays, and patients arrive braced for a number they can't predict. Here's a plainer account of how the money works.
Why "from" prices exist at all
They're not a trick, but they are easy to misread. A veneer has a genuine price range because the work varies — how much preparation the tooth needs, whether the bite has to be adjusted, whether one tooth is being matched to nine or ten are being designed together. The "from" price is the straightforward end of a real range.
What matters is that you get your number, in writing, after someone has looked in your mouth — not before. Any practice quoting a total over the phone is guessing.
The ladder, cheapest first
Hygienist appointment. The cheapest meaningful change you can make to your smile. Removes stain and tartar that no toothbrush reaches. Some people need nothing else.
Whitening with custom trays. The best value per visible change on this list, by a distance. Includes the trays, which you keep — so future top-ups cost the price of a gel syringe rather than a new course.
Composite bonding, per tooth. Reshaping edges, closing small gaps, repairing chips. One appointment. Reversible, which is why it's often the right first step for someone unsure about committing.
Aligners. A wide range, because a few front teeth is a very different job from a full-arch correction. Straightening your own teeth rather than covering them, and often the option that means less dentistry over a lifetime, not more.
Veneers, per tooth. The largest single-item cost, and the most permanent decision on the list, because preparation of the tooth is usually irreversible.
Implants. A different category — replacing a missing tooth rather than improving an existing one — and priced accordingly, because it's surgery plus a restoration, usually over several months.
The sequence saves money
This is the part people don't expect. Doing things in the right order routinely reduces the total.
Whiten before bonding or veneers, always. New composite and porcelain are made to match your teeth at the moment they're made, and they never whiten afterwards. Whiten first, and the new work is matched to the shade you're keeping. Whiten after, and you'll be paying to replace work you just bought.
Straighten before you consider veneers. Teeth in the right position often need far less covering up — sometimes none. People who arrive asking for eight veneers and leave with aligners and two bonded edges are common, and they spend less.
Treat the health problems first. Gum disease, decay and a failing old crown all have to be dealt with before cosmetic work, because building on them is money spent twice.
Paying for it
0% finance is available on treatments over £500, subject to status, spreading the cost over a fixed term with nothing added. Terms apply and it isn't right for everyone, but it's the reason a plan that looks impossible as a lump sum is often manageable monthly.
We'll show you the monthly figure alongside the total, so you're comparing the same thing.
What you'll actually get from us
A written plan with each item priced individually, the recommended sequence, the timescale, and — this is the bit that matters — what happens if you only do part of it. Because doing the first two steps and stopping is a perfectly legitimate choice, and you should be able to see what that costs and what it gets you.
Thinking about it? Here are three ways to start, whichever suits you:
- Book online, right now — book a free cosmetic consultation in a couple of taps. Consultations for orthodontics, implants and facial aesthetics are free, and there's no obligation to go ahead.
- Message us on WhatsApp — 07512 582 750. Send a photo if you like; it's often the quickest way to get a straight answer.
- Or simply call — 0121 354 7570.
There's no obligation and no pressure — plenty of people come once, take the written plan away and think about it for months.
